It’s the beginning of a new year which means it’s time for a new year refresh on your home. Whether it’s starting renovations on a new room or just freshening up your home decor, it’s time to embrace the start of a new year!
This week we wanted to share our favorite tips and tricks on how to refresh your home. Keep reading for some room decor inspo and tips that are sure to help bring life to any room in your home!
Organize Your Space
Organizing your home is a simple yet effective way to refresh your room. The organization is an art, and we recommend reading up on it. We love Marie Kondo’s book, The Life-Changing Magic Of Tidying Up. In her book, she talks about the art of decluttering and that it’s important to start off by getting rid of the items in your home that no longer spark joy or you no longer need.
Marie Kondo also advises that when decluttering, you should start by category. Start with something simple and easy like books or miscellany and finish with sentimental items such as keepsakes and photos, which will be harder to part with.
It’s little things like decluttering your space that will help transform your organization skills and of course your home.
There are many ways to store and organize your belongings, but have you ever thought about adding built-ins to your home? Built-ins are a great way to not only organize but spice up your home too! To read more about built-ins and get some inspo check out our Built-Ins We Love blog. Now is the time to get organized and be surrounded by items in your home that spark joy!
Add Color
Adding a pop of color to a room can add depth and interest. You can either go all in or start small. To ease into the idea of adding color, we suggest adding decorative pillows, adding a colorful accent chair like the ones in the photo, or a colorful throw blanket. If you’re ready to go all in with color, then painting walls or built-ins, a colorful rug, or a new piece of art to a room can make a huge difference. If you’re not ready to fully commit to painting a room in your home, another great way to add color is by adding wallpaper. Interested in learning more? Incorporate New Art
Another great way to spice up any room in your home is to incorporate new art pieces. If you’ve already invested money in your frames, try adding new art pieces to the frames you already own. A great place to find art is Etsy, you can find anything from instant prints to custom art pieces. Another great way to incorporate new art into your home is by creating a gallery wall. Liven Up A Room With Greenery
Adding decorative house plants is a great way to bring life to your home. If you’re not a huge fan of live houseplants, there are several great artificial options out there that will help achieve the same look and feel without the upkeep. Have lots of art already on the walls of your home? Try creating a living wall, filled with real and faux plants. You can never have too much greenery, in my opinion. 🙂
Work With What You Already Have
On a budget? Don’t worry! It’s still possible to give your home a refresh while saving money. A great way to do this is to rearrange your home. Give each room a new perspective by going around each room and rearranging the furniture and the decor. You can move around items from room to room for a whole new feel. Another great way to refresh your home while saving money is to upcycle your furniture. Reupholstering an old chair is a great way to upkeep your furniture while still getting that “new” furniture feel.
The new year is a great time to try out new things in your home. Decluttering and getting rid of the items that no longer serve you will not only help you get organized but will help make space for new additions to your home. Your home is your safe space, and it should make you feel inspired and ready to take on the new year. We hope this blog helps you get started on your new year home refresh, and we can’t wait to see the final results!
